Daisy Jones & The Six, Taylor-Jenkins Reid - Review

Daisy Jones & The Six (2019), is centred around the release of fictional album Aurora and the infamous split of the band, which was a mystery to the world until the release of this 'tell all' book. The book is written as transcripts from each member of the band and they're account of the time, therefore each character gives their own personal retrospective opinion on exactly what happened. I really enjoyed the transcript style because it felt so real.

One of the main things I loved about this book is just how real it felt. I truly couldn't believe it was a fictional piece of work. I even googled the band to double check. Every part of it felt utterly believable, even the lyrics at the back of the book felt like real songs. I couldn't put the book down. You can certainly tell the book draws inspiration from the infamous 'Rumours' album by Fleetwood Mac, from the tension and friction to the affairs and drink and drugs.

This is one of those rare books where no matter what the characters did, I loved them all. They could hate each other or cheat on each other and I still liked them all! I also loved that Reid included the formation of the band and the time before, for example when Daisy was a solo artist. It gave a lot more insight into why the dynamics of the band were the way they were.

There is also a sneaky twist at the end that blindsided me and I didn't even suspect! It was such a small detail that changed the way I looked at the book. This really is one of the best books I've read this year and as soon as I finished this I ordered Reid's other book The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo (2017).
